About Mark Caldwell Walker

I have over 40 years of professional experience in areas including active duty military (Army Signal Officer), state level emergency management (Alaska), and IT/Cybersecurity (Federal and Contractor). Along with that I’ve also worked on-air in commercial radio, as well as voice over projects including some titles I narrated that are available on Audible.

Naturally I have a personal life as well, in which I enjoy listening to podcasts and audio books, reading, lectoring and bearing chalice in church as well as streaming the services on YouTube, and spending time with my wife, and our daughters and two grandchildren when we have opportunity. Weather permitting, I cycle whenever I can; kudos to Frederick for being a bicycle friendly community.

I previously enjoyed producing a local tech podcast, and interviewing creatives on another podcast I developed with my daughter; I was a co-host and the audio engineer for both shows. My happy place is recording interviews and narrations, and editing audio.

I’m a dedicated Linux practitioner (my main computers and digital audio workstation are Linux, and I have Windows 10 and 11 machines for use when required). I organized and led the local Linux users group for six years, Frederick Open Source (FOS).

I’ve been a licensed radio amateur since age 14 (Extra Class since 1975), and after a 30 year hiatus I got back on the air in July 2020. Hams, feel free to reach out to me at my email address on QRZ.com or via Winlink to my current call sign AC3EW.

I share some of my more philosophical opinions at another website I have, a blog named Issues Digest. There I consider different concepts in areas such as beneficial tech and sustainable socioeconomic policy, as well as theological and spiritual perspectives under a “Theophilus” category. I also narrate my blog items on an Internet radio station I program and operate:

My perspective on using Linux for voice narration is in my eBook:
Voice Over on Linux.

I think that fairly summarizes the person (me) behind this personal site.

That’s enough about me; I’d like to hear about you! I know that social media has become the communications means of choice for many, but really the best way to contact me is email; and a good address for that is marwalk “at” gmail.com.

Best,
mcw

Something I made just experimenting—to demonstrate the possibilities with LilyPond and Frescobaldi.
